6 "Dikke Blauwe" was one of the so called "Three Musketeers" the other two being "Fietsvlieger" NL36-37252 and "Schoone Blauwe" NL37-2128 all bred before the war from "Blauwe Ost-Roe" Belg34-621537 and "Oude Reyduvin" NL-3-28-c-1253. The "Three Musketeers" were seized together with their sire "Blauwe Ost-Roe" and formed the foundation of the Steenbergen Wehrmachtshok. "Dikke Blauwe" died during the war but "Schoone Blauwe" was one of the pigeons returned to Aarden when the occupation ended. 16 Ring number unknown. This "English Army Pigeon" was clearly obtained during wartime. It would be very interesting to know its ring number and origin. "Mozes" a son of this pigeon was hatched in 1944 consequently this pigeon was of 1943 or earlier origin. Holland was under occupation throughout this time and prior to that, on August 4th 1942, the occupying force ordered that all Dutch homing pigeons be killed. From that time pigeons, especially military trained, were a prime target of the occupying forces. Those that survived only did so by being hidden and kept in secret against the threat of severe penalties through both the fierce fighting that went on during 1944/45 and the severe winter that alone led to thousands of human deaths. UKR3 "Engelse Legerduif" British Army

19 Eduard De Herdt was a renowned fancier of the day, from the small town of Kontich about 10kms from Borgerhout, and in his early days Jules Roeckaert bought pigeons from him. From two of those pigeons Roeckaert bred "Muschke" who turned out to be an excellent racing hen but an even better breeding hen. In turn "Muschke" bred the "Oude Lichte" and when he was paired to a hen from Emile van der Avoort, who also lived in Borgerhout and whose pigeons mostly derived from Roeckaert, they produced the "Goede Lichte" Belg19-42410 who proved to be the principal stud cock of the Jules Roeckaert lofts. UKR24 "Herdt Doffer" De Herdt, Eduard
